Problems growing Rhubarb?

Rhubarb generally doesn’t grow well in sub tropical QLD because it loves the cold. But here’s a great tip from Peter Cundall (Gardening Australia). “Dig out the whole root system in winter, put it in a plastic bag while it’s still moist, and put it in the freezer. Freeze it solid for about a month, take it out and plant it in the garden and you’ll be amazed at the results.” Has anyone tried this?

Tino Carnevale (Gardening Australia) also suggests “When your rhubarb is flowering, it is best to snap off the flower stalks at their base so that the energy is redirected back into the plant. The seeds are viable but most people choose to grow from divided crowns as they are true to form, and there is less time to wait before you’re tucking into rhubarb crumble.”
