Monthly Club Function – Saturday 1st August 2026
Peter Beven is the Glebe Garden Club’s advertised guest speaker for Saturday the 1st of August. Unfortunately, Peter had to cancel his speaking engagement for family reasons, and a new speaker has had to be found.
Many would remember Chis Peatey who attended the Glebe Garden Club last year in March 2025 who spoke on “Wildlife Rescue”, at the same time bringing along a baby possum. Chris has agreed to be the Glebe Garden Club guest speaker again on Saturday the 1st August 2026 under a different guise and speaking interest.
It turns out that Christopher Peatey works as a Scientific Officer at the Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute. His PhD was completed on the transmission stages of Plasmodium falciparum malaria. He spent 2 years running the Vector Surveillance and Control Dept where he specialised in entomology and vector borne diseases – specifically diseases spread by mosquitoes. Chris will talk about some of the insects and animals commonly found in gardens in Southeast Qld and how they can be helpful to you and your garden….. or not. This talk will include the recognition of the good and bad insects – and associated larvae. This talk should be very interesting for those interested in gardening.
Please come along and have a great time.

CONGRATULATIONS……….BRIAN HEATH
Brian is the President of the Glebe Garden Club (Ipswich).
At the QCGC Christmas Function and Biennial Awards presentation (26th November 2025), Brian won the award for “Most Contribution by an Individual to the Community”.
The following is part of the content that was part of the Glebe Garden Club nomination for the QCGC 2025 Biennial Awards.
Brian has an extremely busy schedule as a Guest Speaker at many Garden Clubs and Orchid Societies around southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. He talks on a large variety of subjects from
Plant Genus, propagation of Plants, Dahlia growing, and a huge number of Orchid categories. Brian freely gives of his time to help individuals and groups at his home to encourage people that are interested in
gardens, plants and especially Orchids. While Brian is a well sought after Guest Speaker within the Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales, he was also invited to Launceston to give a talk for the Tasmania Orchid Society. From a novice to the experienced, Brian can impart his knowledge so that it is understood at all levels. In short Brian is a gifted Teacher. However, Brian’s busy schedule extends much further than that of a Guest Speaker. He is heavily involved in many Clubs and society positions as follows:
-
Queensland Dahlia Society……….President
-
Ipswich Orchid Society……………. President
-
Glebe Garden Club…………………. President
-
Marburg Show Society…………….. President
-
Woolgoolga Orchid Society, NSW …………….Committee Member
-
Ipswich Horticulture Society…………..Member
-
Brisbane Orchid Society…………………Member
GLEBE GARDEN CLUB (IPSWICH)
There is not enough room to express what Brian does for the Club; however, the following gives an indication as to why he is such a valued Member. He has been the President for the last three years. At every Club Monthly Function Members bring in prize plants for the “Show and Tell Table”. Brian speaks about each plant and his knowledge of the genus, caring and propagation of all these plants is staggering. His involvement in all the Club’s activities reveal just how fortunate the Glebe Garden Club is in having Brian as President.
