Who doesn’t love dead-heading?! 😉 Here’s some timely advice from Claire Bickle ‘Gardening for the good life’.
Garden Task!!
It’s that time of year again when I’m going to remind you all to remove any spent/finished flowers on your flowering annuals. Just pinch them off using your thumb and forefinger or using a small pair of snippers.
This will keep them flowering for longer as they can put their energy into producing more buds and not seeds.
You can see in my hand pictured below the green seed starting to form and even one brown seed pod that I missed has actually matured and released seeds (2nd pic).
Regular watering and applications of liquid fertiliser will also help keep you winter/spring flowering annuals whether it be violas, pansies, snapdragons, poppies etc ….) flowering away whether in the gardens, pots or baskets.
